Professional Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies (BSPS) is a flexible degree completion program designed for students who bring academic, technical, and/or professional backgrounds to their studies. The program values and integrates prior learning—both academic and experiential—allowing students to build a personalized degree plan that reflects their unique goals and experiences.
Departmental Honors in Professional Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies offers students the opportunity to earn Departmental Honors as a way to recognize exceptional effort and achievement within the major. This distinction celebrates students who go above and beyond in their coursework and capstone experience. Through the capstone project, honors students will demonstrate their advanced learning, leadership, and readiness to make an impact in their professional fields.
Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for Departmental Honors in Professional Studies.
· Resident GPA 3.5+
· 90+ earned credits
Students who have completed or are currently enrolled in EHS 400 are not eligible to apply.
Honors Program Requirements
· B or better in EHS 300. Honors Contract required. Students who completed EHS 300 before earning 90 credits will be exempt from this requirement.
· B or better in EHS 400. Honors Contract required.
· Presentation of EHS 400 Capstone project at CERCA, COHHS Spring Research Forum, Provost’s Honors Symposium, or in other settings deemed appropriate by the Professional Studies Academic Program Coordinator.
EHS 101 Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio (1 cr)
Consent: Department Consent Required
This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate learning done outside the university and earn potential credit for courses offered at UW-Eau Claire. Students will demonstrate prior learning and illustrate knowledge and skills by completing a portfolio which aligns their prior learning with university-level outcomes to demonstrate proficiency.

EHS 300 Introduction to Professional Studies (3 crs)
Prerequisite: ,Admitted to Professional Studies Major
Consent: Department Consent Required
This class provides an introduction to the Bachelor of Professional Studies major. Students will familiarize themselves with university resources and learning tools, reflect on and evaluate prior course work and other learning experiences, participate in a community engaged learning experience, and create an academic plan that will help them attain their personal and professional goals.

EHS 400 Professional Studies Capstone Seminar (3 crs)
Prerequisite: Admitted to Professional Studies Major,
• This course should be taken during the semester of anticipated graduation.
This course provides engagement in a student-centered, content-related, and culminating capstone experience during the final semester of a student’s undergraduate academic career. Students will have the opportunity to integrate and synthesize the knowledge and skills from their academic career and work experiences and create a capstone project that relates to their personal and professional goals as well as demonstrates the outcomes of the Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies major.

Prerequisite: Admitted to Professional Studies major.
Consent: Department Consent Required
The course emphasizes the application of interdisciplinary knowledge, clear professional communication, and evidence-based approaches to complex workplace or community challenges. Students set and monitor meaningful goals for their internship, engage in regular reflection on their learning, and demonstrate effective collaboration, leadership, and accountability appropriate to their internship role.
