Exercise Science, Comprehensive Major
Exercise Science, Comprehensive Major (B.S.)
The following is a sample degree plan, based on the current catalog. It is based on the 120-credit graduation requirement and assumes no transferred credits, no requirements waived by placement tests, no courses taken in the summer or winter, no repeated courses, and no remedial courses that may be required. This sample degree plan is intended for first-year students entering UW-Eau Claire in the fall semester. Your own degree plan may differ depending on the course of study selected (second major, minor, etc.). UW-Eau Claire cannot guarantee all courses will be offered as shown but will provide a range of courses that may enable prepared students to fulfill their requirements in a timely period. This sample degree plan is just a guide. Please consult your advisor, your degree audit, and the catalog to create your own degree plan. Note: In order to earn the required minimum of 120 credits for the degree in four years, you should plan to take 15 credits each semester or 30 credits each year.
To earn a degree, students must fulfill all University Graduation Requirements, including the Core General Education Requirements (CGER). CGER course work in the following sample degree plan uses abbreviations such as CGER CL, CGER HA, and CGER NSWL to represent the learning outcomes students will meet via completion of the course. The 27 credits of Exercise Science Secondary Area courses should be tailored to the student's academic and career goals. Students planning to attend a graduate/professional program may use the Exercise Science Secondary Area courses to take the pre-requisite coursework needed to apply to those programs. Students interested in UWEC's MSAT or MSEP Accelerated programs should consult with the appropriate program director or academic advisor about the connection between the Exercise Science Secondary Area credits and accelerated coursework.

- Natural Sciences & Wellness (NSW/NSWL) - 6 credits, one course minimum (NSW-Lab required)
- Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS) - 6 credits, two courses minimum
- Humanities & Arts (HA) - 6 credits, two courses minimum
- Civics & Perspectives (CP) - 6 credits, two courses minimum
- 1
University Mathematics Requirement:
Students satisfy the University Mathematics Requirement in one of four ways:
- completing an approved university-level mathematics course (MQR) with a grade of C (not C-) or above
- achieving a suitable score on the UW Math Placement Test
- achieving a suitable score on an exam such as the Advanced Placement Calculus or Advanced Placement Statistics exams
- achieving a suitable score on a Credit by Examination administered by the Department of Mathematics.
- 2
University Writing Requirement:
Students satisfy the University Writing Requirement in one of four ways:
- completing a Blugold Seminar in Critical Reading and Writing course (WRIT 102, WRIT 114, WRIT 116, WRIT 118, or WRIT 120) with a grade of C (not C-) or above

-
Mathematics: If the University Math Requirement is satisfied through a placement test, the CGER Mathematics & Quantitative Reasoning requirement will be considered fully met, replacing the 4-credit (1 course) requirement.
-
Students must still complete 36 credits across 10 courses, with any remaining credits or courses eligible to be taken from any CGER category.
The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) Accelerated Plan allows qualified undergraduate students to complete the fourth year of the Exercise Science major while completing the first year of MSAT coursework. The accelerated pathway for the Master of Science degree in Athletic Training is five years upon matriculation to UW-Eau Claire.
Students who plan to pursue the MSAT Accelerated Plan should add the Pre-Athletic Training advising track to their Exercise Science degree plan early in their time at UW-Eau Claire. In addition, any student interested in the MSAT Accelerated Plan should consult with the MSAT Program Director and their academic advisor to ensure they are on track to apply for the accelerated pathway. Accelerated coursework is confirmed upon admission to the MSAT degree program and completion of the first term in the MSAT program. A student will earn a Master of Science in Athletic Training upon successful completion of the fifth year in the MSAT program. Students who successfully complete the five-year program will be eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Inc. examination and pursue state-level licensure as an entry-level athletic trainer.
The following MSAT courses will fulfill degree requirements for the Exercise Science major and the MSAT Program (33 credits during the fourth year):

To maintain good standing in the MSAT Accelerated Plan, a student must:
- Earn a minimum 3.0 GPA in all accelerated (KINS 7XXXA) coursework.
- Earn a grade of C or better in all accelerated (KINS 7XXXA) coursework. Any course grade below a C cannot be used to fulfill MSAT requirements.
Failure to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in concurrent accelerated B.S. in Exercise Science/MSAT coursework may prohibit a student from continuation in the program.
The Master of Science in Exercise Physiology (MSEP) Accelerated Plan allows qualified undergraduate students to complete the fourth year of a Rehabilitation Science or Exercise Science major while completing the first year of MSEP coursework. The accelerated pathway for the Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology is five years upon matriculation to UW-Eau Claire.
Students who plan to pursue the MSEP Accelerated Plan should add the Pre-Exercise Physiology advising track to their Rehabilitation Science or Exercise Science degree plan early in their time at UW-Eau Claire. In addition, any student interested in the MSEP Accelerated plan should consult with the MSEP Program Director and their academic advisor to ensure they are on track to apply for the accelerated pathway. Accelerated coursework is confirmed upon admission to the MSEP degree program and completion of the first term in the MSEP program.
