Mental Health and Well-Being Certificate

The mental health and well-being certificate prepares students for careers in mental health, medical, or social service settings.  The coursework within this program will increase students' understanding of the impact that social, cultural, and environmental factors have on the mental health of an individual.  

Required Course
SW 100Introduction to Social Work3
Select nine credits from the following:
What is Happiness?
Introduction to Psychology
Death and Bereavement
Self-Care in the Helping Professions
Introduction to Counseling Skills for Helping Professionals
Understanding Trauma
Mental Health and Substance Use
Other courses as approved by the student's advisor or the department chair.

NOTE: Three credits used to complete the social work major requirements may count toward completion of the certificate.  

NOTE:  A grade of C or better must be earned in all classes used to fulfill certificate requirements.

Students completing this program will be expected to meet the following learning outcomes:

  • Articulate the impact that social, cultural, and environmental factors can have on the mental health and well-being of an individual.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current best practices in mental health service delivery.
