Additional Requirement | ||
Students pursuing the Child Advocacy Studies minor must complete one of the following items: | ||
1. A 100 hour placement in a child welfare setting. The placement setting must be pre-approved by the Child Advocacy Studies advisor. Students may seek pre-approval to count coursework associated with their major (such as student teaching, social work internship, or other practicum experience) to meet this requirement. | ||
2. A domestic or international immersion experience related to child welfare. The immersion must be pre-approved by the Child Advocacy Studies advisor. | ||
3. A directed study or an independent study related to child welfare. The directed or independent study must be pre-approved by the Child Advocacy Studies advisor. |
Note 1: Students must earn a grade of C or better in any course used to fulfill the requirements for the minor.
Note 2: Other courses may be used to meet minor requirements if approved by the Child Advocacy Studies advisor.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students completing this program will be expected to meet the following outcomes:
- Demonstrate understanding and confidence in identifying maltreatment and the process of mandated reporting.
- Explain the systems children and their families may interact with once maltreatment or neglect has been reported.
- Apply multidisciplinary approaches to serving children and families who have experienced trauma.
- Identify resources appropriate for recommendation for a child or family who has experienced trauma.
